Welcome Oxford Isis Korfball Club is a brand new club set up in 2007. We are looking to recruit people who are new to Korfball, so if you haven't played before, don't worry, there are other beginners too. All you need is to be able to run round a bit, and some hand/eye coordination is useful as well. Anyone who has played sports before can easily pick up the game.
We play all year round, indoors in the winter and outdoors in the summer. We compete in local league and cup competitions with clubs from Abingdon, Oxford University, Didcot, Reading & Milton Keynes, as well as tournaments around the country.
You've got this far and aren't sure what Korfball is?
Korfball is a unique mixed team sport that men and women play together, with similarities to netball, basketball, and handball, but very different. It's fast-moving and skillful, for players of all ages (we range from early 20s to 40s) and various abilities (no experience at all, to 15+ years), and it's competitive yet friendly.

Plenty to learn for all three teams. No wins just yet!
Isis beginners kicked things off with a friendly against the University beginners. Everyone appeared to enjoy the match and although we didn't score (despite a number of near misses). As Clare said at the team talk, the match was about learning to play as a team and enjoying ourselves, and the was definitely achieved. The second match was Isis 1 against Basingstoke, and despite shipping two early goals we reached half time only 3 - 2 down, so the game could have gone either way. Both divisions were defending well, but we were unable to take the chances we had. Unfortunately the second half didn't improve, and we ended up losing by 6 goals to 9. However it was our first game together, so there is plenty to work on. The second team then took on Abingdon 2 who were playing their third game of the season. Isis played well, and it was a really exciting game to watch, but Abingdon took an early lead, and despite Isis pulling goals back early on, Abingdon drew away to win by 15 to 6. Next weekend Isis 1 will be playing against Reading 1. |
