Welcome Oxford Isis Korfball Club is a brand new club set up in 2007. We are looking to recruit people who are new to Korfball, so if you haven't played before, don't worry, there are other beginners too. All you need is to be able to run round a bit, and some hand/eye coordination is useful as well. Anyone who has played sports before can easily pick up the game.
We play all year round, indoors in the winter and outdoors in the summer. We compete in local league and cup competitions with clubs from Abingdon, Oxford University, Didcot, Reading & Milton Keynes, as well as tournaments around the country.
You've got this far and aren't sure what Korfball is?
Korfball is a unique mixed team sport that men and women play together, with similarities to netball, basketball, and handball, but very different. It's fast-moving and skillful, for players of all ages (we range from early 20s to 40s) and various abilities (no experience at all, to 15+ years), and it's competitive yet friendly.

Luton tournament report and the result of the Isis 1 weekend league match
SATURDAY: Isis had entered two teams in the Luton tournament, but a slight shortage saw us inviting Oxford City to join us. We entered one team in the main tournament, and then with City, Uni, and some very welcome MK City girls a scratch 'Oxfordshire' team played in the beginners pool. The scratch team started well with a couple of wins, and continued strongly, after a draw, their final game was against Bec, the other unbeaten team in the pool. Oxfordshire won that game, ensuring a place in the 'final' of the beginners pool. As Bec finished second in the pool the two teams faced each other again, and again Oxfordshire ame out ahead to take the beginners pool trophy! The 'Isis' team were preparing for their match against Oxford Uni on Sunday, and played their first game against OKA opponents MK Bucks. Quick scores and good shooting from Bucks saw the first game lost 4 - 2. Two more losses and things weren't working well, but a draw against Phoenix and finally a win saw Isis play off for 9th - 10th against Nottingham Magic. The playoff game went for nearly 20 minutes without a goal. Nottingham rarely gaining chances to score, and Isis unable to convert many chances in attack. Finally Isis scored twice very quickly and the divisions switched. Magic then scored twice within a couple of minutes to even things up. Finally Isis scored with about two minutes to go, and sucessfully fought to defend the 3 - 2 lead to end up taking 9th. SUNDAY: Isis 1 were playing Oxford Uni, and with all the first team finally available were hoping for a better result than earlier in the season. Things started well with Uni's initial lead pulled back and after 25 minutes the scores were level at 4 each. However, two quick and excellent long shots from Simon saw Uni go into the second half two ahead. From there things went rapidly downhill with Uni scoring freely throughout the second half, with some ecellent long shots from Halim and several penalties from Jo. Uni won by a considerable margin and look on-form going into next weeks Student Nationals. |
