Cup matches, league matches, friendly matches, and a Beginners tournament!
Apologies to the contributors for the delay in getting these published. Bristol Beginners Tournament: Bristol was hosting another beginners tournament and Oxford Isis beginners squad once again couldn't miss it. We entered a team of 6 players (Jenny, Sam, Clare, Matt, Martin, Evan) and travelled hoping to achieve a good result and gain some experience. Unfortunately we lost our first match against Taunton, with quite a bad result proving that warming up takes us longer than it should. But under Clare's leadership and after some changes in formations we then started winning one match after another, with only one draw against eventual winners Bristol City. We secured third place in the tournament of six clubs and taking into account the number of experienced players playing for other teams we can be proud of what we achieved ! The tournament report by Bristol can be found here. OKA plate quarter-final (Isis 3 v MKX): Isis 3 were playing against MKX. Using some experience and enthusiasm from the previous days tournament at Bristol we were able to win 18:2. Our squad consisted of Jenny, Sam, Clare, Rowan, Chris, Max, Matt and Martin. Unfortunately, the restriction of using a maximum of three players from higher Isis teams meant we wouldn't progress to the next round. OKA League match (Isis 2 v MKBucks 3): --------------------------- Short version: We lost 11-8 (6-4 ht) --------------------------- Medium length version: We only had 7 players - a division of 3 with Jenny, Clare and Sav (I (Dom) came on for the last 15 minutes but, to be frank, hindered as much as I helped); and a 4 with Patri, Jane, Martin and Matt. In the end our numerical inferiority just outweighed our technical superiority: I think it's fair to say that if we'd put out any sort of 8 instead of a 7 then we would have won the game. We were never in the lead at anypoint in the game, but we were still right in it with 10 minutes to go (we were 8-7 down) - but we just couldn't get our noses in front and then they got 3 quick goals to go 11-7 up. That was game over pretty much... Mentioned in despatches: Matt, Martin, Sav; Player of the match: Patri, who was playing as the lynchpin of a system that was brand new to her and did it brilliantly. OKA league Match (Isis 1 v MKBucks 1) I wasn't there to play or watch, but apparently the match was pretty close at half time, with Isis ahead! With the possibility of a first win by any club in the OKA against MKBucks for a couple of years I can imagine the game was pretty tense. Unfortunately Isis lost out, finshing the match 2 goals down at 10 : 12 OKA Cup Semi-Final (Isis 1 v Uni 2): After an hours break Isis 1 were back on court to face Uni 2. It was our own fault for postponing the MK game from an earlier date. Again I wasn't around, but I think it was even at half time. After full time it was seven apiece, so golden goal time. Unfortunately for Isis, Uni pulled off a shock win with a golden goal. Congratulations to them, and they will go on to face MKBucks in the OKA cup final. |
